Box Score Joplin, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team came up just short in a 6-5 loss at #13 Missouri Southern on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, SBU now stands at 15-15 (10-10 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats once again got on the scoreboard early, getting to the Lions starting pitcher in the first inning. With one out in the top of the first,
Christian Binger doubled down the right field line, and would come home one batter later when
Sean Murley hit a two-run homerun to center field as the Bearcats would take a 2-0 lead. The score would remain 2-0 SBU until the bottom of the fifth when MSSU put up three runs on the scoreboard as the Bearcats trailed 3-2.
However, SBU answered right back in the top of the sixth.
Chance Wolfe led the inning off with a walk before
Hunter Hisky would hit an rbi double to left center to tie the game at 3-3.
Trevor Bowling then drew a walk, and a ground-rule double by
Caleb Sneed plated Hisky as SBU took the lead, 4-3. Missouri Southern would respond right away, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Lions would add another run in the eighth, and despite a solo homerun in the top of the ninth by
Carter Sherban, SBU would fall 6-5.
The Bearcats will return home for a four game homestand beginning with a mid-week MIAA contest against Lincoln on Tuesday, April 5. Opening pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
