Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team was eliminated from the MIAA Tournament on Friday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to #4 seed Pittsburg State.
Pittsburg State jumped ahead in the bottom of the first, taking a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats big threat came in the top of the fourth when
Kaley Hansen hit a one out double, followed by a PSU error which put two runners on with one out. However, Southwest Baptist was unable to score in the inning and the Gorillas added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning as SBU trailed 2-0. The Bearcats threatened again in the sixth, with a leadoff single from
Rachel Ray followed two batters later by Hansen reaching base after getting hit. However, PSU once again worked out of the jam as the Bearcats would eventually fall 2-0.
SBU finishes the season 24-35, advancing to the MIAA Tournament for the first time in 14 years. The Bearcats also advanced the furthest in the MIAA Tournament in program history.
