Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team used a double-header split with Nebraska-Kearney to win their final home series of the season on Friday. The Bearcats took game two 5-1 before falling 2-1 in game one, as their record now stands at 21-25 (16-20 MIAA) on the season.
In game two the Bearcats jumped on the board early, leading after the first inning of play.
Caleb Sneed led the inning off with a walk,
Trevor Bowling was hit by a pitch, and both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt from
Christian Binger.
Sean Murley then hit a two-rbi single to center field to put SBU on top 2-0. After an out moved Murley to second,
Cody Massey hit an rbi single and advanced to second on a UNK error. Massey then stole third, and came home on an infield single by
Hunter Hisky to give the Bearcats a 4-0 lead. After a scoreless second, the Bearcats added to their lead in the bottom of the third.
Jeff Bouchard led the inning off with a bunt single, followed by a Massey single through the left side.
Blake Hobbs drew a walk to load the bases, and a sacrifice fly from
Seth Ell put SBU up 5-0. The Lopers got one run back in the sixth, but the Bearcats would come away with the 5-1 victory.
Cory Borsh earned the win by throw 5.2 innings, while
Calvin Lovig threw a perfect 3.1 innings with 5 strikeouts.
In the first game of the day the Bearcats once again struck first. In the bottom of the second Murley led the inning off with a walk, was sacrificed over to second, and came home on a Massey rbi single up the middle. However, UNK plated two in the fourth and despite the strong pitching performances by
