Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team opened up a three-game series against Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday with a 10-9 victory. After the win SBU improves to 20-24 (15-19 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats were the first to strike in the bottom of the first inning.
Caleb Sneed led the inning off with a single to left field, followed two batters later with a double from
Christian Binger to put runners on second and third.
Sean Murley then hit an rbi groundout, followed by a
Jeff Bouchard infield single and an rbi single from
Cody Massey to give SBU a 2-0 lead.
Nebraska-Kearney answered back in the third with four runs, as SBU trailed 4-2 heading to the fourth.
Hunter Hisky led the inning off with a double down the right field line, was sacrificed to third, followed by an rbi single up the middle by Sneed to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Lopers plated three runs in the following inning, as SBU trailed 7-3. In the bottom half of the inning SBU answered back with three runs of their own. Binger led the inning off with a double down the right field line, followed by a Murley single through the left side. Bouchard then hit an rbi double, followed by a two-rbi single from Massey as SBU trailed 7-6.
After a scorless sixth, the Bearcats tied the game in the bottom of the seventh off of a solo homerun from Murley. UNK re-took the lead the following inning with a pair of runs, but SBU once again responded.
Chance Wolfe drew a pinch hit walk, followed to batters later by an rbi double from
Trevor Bowling. Binger singled through the left side, followed by a sacrifice fly from Murley to tie the game at 9-9.
The Bearcats held the Lopers scoreless in the top of the ninth, setting the stage for a walk-off in the bottom half of the inning.
Carter Sherban led the inning off with a double to left field before Hisky hit a walk-off single through the right side to give the Bearcats the 10-9 victory.
SBU will return to action on Friday, April 28 when they host Nebraska-Kearney. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. from Dodson Field.
