St. Charles, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team earned a double-header split at Lindenwood on Friday, taking game two 10-4 after falling 2-1 in game one. At the conclusion of the day the Bearcats stand at 19-33 (10-14 MIAA) on the season.
In game two the Bearcats jumped ahead early, taking a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
Rachel Ray led the game off with an infield single to second, while
Kaley Hansen hit an infield single to short followed by hit batsman to load the bases with one out.
Caitlyn Cooner then hit an rbi infield single to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Lindenwood responded with a run in the bottom of the second, tying the game at 1-1.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Bearcats opened the game up in the top of the fifth.
Kori Hillenburg led the inning off with a single to left field, and after two outs, Hansen singled up the middle and advanced on the throw to place runners on second and third.
Dana Graves then hit a three-run homerun to left center, giving the Bearcats a 4-1 lead.
Caitlyn Cooner kept the inning alive with a double to left center, and an LWU error gave SBU a 5-1 lead after five innings of play.
SBU added another run in the top of the sixth, extending the lead to 6-1, before Lindenwood responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 6-4. However, SBU quickly re-built their lead in the top of the seventh. Cooner led the inning off with a walk, followed by a single up the middle by
Lyndie Routh.
Yezzania Gonzalez was then hit by a pitch to load the bases before Hillenburg hit a two-rbi single through the left side to give the Bearcats an 8-4 lead. Ray then hit an rbi infield bunt single, scoring Gonzalez, before Hillenburg came home on a passed ball to extend the lead to 10-4.

Hunter Middleton to preserve the 10-4 game two victory.
In game one, Lindenwood scored a pair of runs over the first two innings as SBU trailed 2-0 heading into the fourth. The Bearcats were able to get one run back in the top of the fourth off of a pair of LWU errors, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, SBU was unable to push another run across the plate as they fell 2-1 in game one.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, April 23 when they travel to Lincoln for the final regular season MIAA contests of the season. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 1:00 p.m. from Jefferson City, Missouri.
