Box Score 2 Topeka, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up a double-header split at Washburn on Saturday, taking game one 13-6 before falling in game two 10-1. At the conclusion of the day, SBU now stands at 15-27 (7-12 MIAA) on the season.
In game one
Rachel Ray led the game off with a double to left center, was advanced over to third, and came home on a
Kaley Hansen sacrifice bunt as the Bearcats took a 1-0 lead after an inning of play. In the top of the second the Bearcats added to their lead. With one out in the inning
Lyndie Routh hit a solo homerun to left center to give SBU a 2-0 lead. After a hit batsman and another out, Ray had a bunt single coupled with a WU error to bring home
Yezzania Gonzalez. A
Catlin Evans rbi single, followed by an rbi double from
Kaley Hansen, and an rbi single from
Dana Graves gave SBU a 6-0 lead after two innings of play.
After a scoreless third, the Bearcats added to their lead in the fourth.
Kori Hillenburg led the inning off with a double to right center, followed by an rbi double by Ray. Evans then hit an rbi single to right field, followed by a Hansen walk, before a three-run homerun by Graves extended the SBU lead to 11-0.
Caitlyn Cooner then hit a solo homerun to right field as SBU took a 12-0 lead. Washburn responded with six runs over the next two innings, but an rbi single by Hillenburg extended the lead back to 13-6 as SBU would take game one. In game two the lone Bearcat run came off of a Graves solo homerun as SBU fell 10-1.
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, April 8 when they host Central Oklahoma. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 1:00 p.m. from Bolivar.
