Box Score Warrensburg, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell on the road at #12 Central Missouri on Tuesday in a mid-week MIAA contest 12-10. After the loss, SBU drops to 17-22 (12-17 MIAA) on the season.
After a scoreless inning to open up the game, the Mules struck first in the top of the second by taking a 2-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning the Bearcats responded with four runs to take a 4-2 lead.
Trevor Bowling led the inning off with a double to center field, and following a hit batsman, a sacrifice bunt advanced runners to second and third with one out.
Cody Massey then hit an rbi single through the right side, followed two batters later with a three-run homerun from
Christian Binger to give the Bearcats a 4-2 lead.
Central Missouri would add five runs in the fourth and a pair of runs in the top of the fifth as SBU trailed 9-4 heading into the bottom half of the inning. After two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the Bearcats began to string together hits. Bowling started with a single through the left side, followed by a
Seth Ell single through the right side to put runners on first and second.
Hunter Hisky then hit an rbi single up the middle, followed by an rbi single to left field by
Cody Massey to cut the deficit to 9-6. However, UCM would add another two runs in the top of the sixth as SBU trailed 11-6.
The Bearcats continued to fight back, plating two more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Chance Wolfe led the inning off by drawing a walk, followed by a hit batsman, and after a sacrifice bunt Hisky walked to load the bases. SBU then had a bases loaded walk by Massey to score a run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Sneed to pull SBU within three at 11-8.
The back-and-forth affair continued in the top of the eighth when UCM hit a solo homerun as SBU trailed 12-8 going into the bottom of the eighth.
Jeff Bouchard led the bottom half of the inning off with a single to left field, followed by a Sherban double to center field to put runners on second and third with no outs. Wolfe hit an rbi groundout, followed by a sacrifice fly from Bowling, as SBU cut the deficit to two at 12-10. However, the Bearcats were unable to pick up any more runs as they would fall 12-10.
SBU will return to action on Thursday, April 21 when they host Pittsburg State to kick off a three-game series against the Gorillas. Opening pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
