Box Score Maryville, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in the final game of a three-game series at Northwest Missouri on Sunday afternoon 7-5. With the loss, SBU drops to 17-21 (12-16 MIAA) on the season.
Southwest Baptist jumped ahead early in the top of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead after a half inning of play. With one out in the inning
Christian Binger hit an infield single to short, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and came home on an rbi double by
Jeff Bouchard to give SBU a 1-0 lead. However, Northwest Missouri responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning before tacking on five more in the bottom of the third as SBU trailed 7-1 heading into the fourth.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Southwest Baptist closed the gap in the top of the fifth. With one out in the inning
Cody Massey singled up the middle, followed by a
Hunter Hisky walk put runners on first and second. An rbi single to left field by
Caleb Sneed cut the deficit to 7-2 before an infield single by Binger loaded the bases. Bouchard drew a bases loaded walk to score Hisky before
Carter Sherban hit a two-rbi double down the left field line as SBU trailed 7-5 heading into the bottom half of the inning. However, the Bearcats were unable to push another run across the plate as SBU would end up fall 7-5.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 19 when they travel to Central Missouri for a mid-week MIAA contest against the Mules. Opening pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. from Warrensburg, Missouri.
