Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team earned a double-header split against Drury on Tuesday afternoon, taking game one 5-4 before falling in game two 4-0. At the conclusion of the day SBU now stands at 18-30 on the season.
In game one SBU started the scoring in the bottom half of the first inning.
Rachel Ray led the inning off with a single through the left side, stole second, and eventually came home on a throwing error by DU to give SBU a 1-0 lead. Drury would respond in the top half of the third, scoring two unearned runs as SBU trailed 2-1. However, the Bearcats got a run back in the bottom half of the inning. Back-to-back one out singles by
Kori Hillenburg and Ray gave SBU runners on first and second with one out. Following a fielder's choice, Ray came home on an rbi single through the right side by
Kaley Hansen to tie the game at 2-2. DU would score runs in the fourth and sixth as SBU trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh
Stef Lischke led the inning off with an infield single to short followed by a single to left field by
Lyndie Routh. A groundout moved both runners up a base before Lischke came home on a wild pitch to pull SBU within one. Hillenburg was then hit by a pitch, putting runners on the corners, when Ray hit an rbi bunt single to tie the game at 4-4.
Catlin Evans then drew a walk to load the bases before
Dana Graves hit a two out walk-off single up the middle to give SBU the 5-4 victory. In the circle
Kacey Ayers picked up the win after throwing a complete game while allowing only one earned run. In game two the Bearcats would fall 4-0 as SBU totaled only three baserunners.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 19 when they travel to Central Missouri for a mid-week non-conference match-up with the Jennies. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 5:00 p.m. from Warrensburg, Missouri.
