Box Score 2 Springfield, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up a non-conference double-header sweep over Drury on Monday evening, taking game one 4-1 and game two 5-2. At the conclusion of the day, SBU now stands at 10-12 on the season.
In game one the Bearcats were the first to strike in the top of the second inning. With one out in the inning
Kaley Hansen was hit by a pitch and came home two batters later on a
Stef Lischke rbi single. In the bottom of the third Drury came back to tie the game at 1-1, but the Bearcats answered back in the top of the fourth.
Caitlyn Cooner led the inning off with a double and came home two batters later on another rbi single from Lischke. The Bearcats added two more runs in the seventh, extending their lead to 4-1, as they came away with a 4-1 victory. In the circle
Kacey Ayers picked up the complete game victory.
In game two the Bearcats once again was the first to score, taking a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.
Rachel Ray had a one out single, followed by a Cooner walk, before Hansen hit a two-rbi triple to put SBU ahead 2-0. SBU added another run in the third when Cooner came home on a rbi single from
Lyndie Routh, extending their lead to 3-0. The 3-0 lead held until the bottom of the sixth when DU put up a run on the scoreboard, but Southwest Baptist responded with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Back-to-back two out rbi doubles from
Lyndie Routh and Lischke extended the SBU lead to 5-1, as the Bearcats would cruise to the 5-2 victory. In game two
Hunter Middleton came away with the win for the Bearcats, throwing 6.0 innings while allowing one run.
SBU will be back in action on Tuesday, March 8 when they host Missouri Southern in MIAA action. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 1:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
