In game one the Bearcats and Gorillas were in a pitcher's dual, as the teams remained tied through the first five innings of play. The Bearcats were able to place runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but were unable to capitolize. The Gorillas broke on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, taking a 1-0 lead, as SBU would eventually fall 1-0.
Kacey Ayers threw a solid game in the circle for SBU, scattering seven hits across seven innings.
In game two the Bearcats struck first in the bottom of the first inning.
Rachel Ray led the inning off with an infield single and advanced to second when the defense failed to realize she was attempting to move up a base. After a sacrifice bunt moved her to third,
Dana Graves hit an rbi single through the right side to give SBU a 1-0 lead. Pittsburg State promptly responded in the top of the second inning by scoring three unearned runs, fueled by three errors by SBU, as the Bearcats trailed 3-1. However, SBU came right back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 3-3.
Stef Lischke led the inning off with a single that bounced off of the pitcher, followed by a
Lyndie Routh single to right field, and a hit batsman to load the bases. Ray then drew a bases loaded walk, followed by an rbi single up the middle by
Catlin Evans to tie the game at 3-3. The score would remain the same for the following four innings before PSU added a run in the top of the sixth, as SBU trailed 4-3. The Bearcats were unable to get another run, as they would eventually fall 4-3.
SBU will hit the road on Friday, April 1 when they travel to Emporia State. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 3:00 p.m. from Emporia, Kansas.
