Box Score St. Charles, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball fell on the road at Lindenwood 9-6 on Thursday evening in the opening game of a three-game series. After the loss SBU drops to 12-12 (7-7 MIAA) on the season.
Lindenwood was the first to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning with a solo homerun, but the Bearcats answered back in the top of the fourth to tie the game.
Sean Murley drew a two out walk and came home when
Carter Sherban doubled to tie the game at 1-1. Lindenwood would score six runs over the next two innings, as SBU trailed 7-1 heading into the top of the seventh.
Sherban started off the seventh with his second double of the evening, followed two batters later by a
Jeff Bouchard rbi triple to cut the deficit to five at 7-2. After another out,
Trevor Bowling hit an rbi single to pull SBU within four at 7-3. Lindenwood would be held scoreless in the bottom of the seventh, but would tack on two more runs in the eighth as SBU trailed 9-3 heading into the ninth.
In the top of the ninth
Hunter Hisky drew a one out walk, followed by back-to-back singles from Bowling and
Cody Massey to load the bases for the Bearcats. After another out,
Christian Binger hit a two-rbi single, as SBU trailed 9-5. With runners on the corners the Bearcats scored another run on a Lindenwood wild pitch, but it wasn't enough as SBU would fall 9-6.
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, March 25 for game two of the series against Lindenwood. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from St. Charles, Missouri.
