Cooner Hits Two Homeruns as SBU Falls in Double-Header at William Jewell

Liberty, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team fell in a double-header at William Jewell on Tuesday afternoon 2-1 and 7-3. At the conclusion of the day the Bearcats now stand at 13-21 on the season.

In game one the Bearcats jumped on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play. With one out in the top of the first, Rachel Ray doubled, followed by an rbi double by Kaley Hansen to put SBU on top 1-0. In the bottom of the fourth the Cardinals tied the contest at 1-1, and in the sixth WJC added another run to take a 2-1 lead. Despite putting a runner in scoring position five of the seven innings, SBU was unable to push across another run as the Bearcats fell 2-1.

In game two William Jewell took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third after two scoreless innings opened up the game. The Bearcats got two runs back in the top of the fourth when Caitlyn Cooner hit a two-run home, scoring Hansen, as SBU trailed 4-2 heading into the fifth. The Cardinals added three more runs in the fifth, and despite another homerun from Cooner, the Bearcats would eventually fall 7-3.

SBU will be back in action on Friday, March 25 when they return to MIAA play by hosting Central Missouri. Game one of the double-header is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
