Box Score Photo GalleryBolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in the final game of a three-game series against Northeastern State 6-4, but claims the series by winning the first two games played on Thursday and Friday. After the loss, SBU drops to 11-11 (7-7 MIAA) on the season.
Northeastern State was the first to strike in the top half of the first inning, utilizing three SBU walks, as they took a 1-0 lead after one. The RiverHawks added another run in the third, taking a 2-0 lead, before the Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth.
Sean Murley led the inning off with a single to right field, and two batters later
Chance Wolfe hit an rbi-triple off of the right field wall to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. After a scoreless fifth, NSU put up four runs in the top of the sixth as SBU trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom half of the inning.
The Bearcats got one run back in the bottom of the sixth when Wolfe singled to center field to score
Christian Binger as SBU trailed 6-2. The Bearcats applied more pressure in the bottom half of the seventh, knocking NSU's starting pitcher out of the game. With one out in the inning
Blake Hobbs and
Caleb Sneed drew back-to-back walks. Binger was then hit by a pitch, followed by a two-rbi double down the left field line by Murley to cut the lead to two at 6-4. After a
Carter Sherban walk loaded the bases, the Bearcats hit into a double-play to end the inning down 6-4. Southwest Baptist was unable to push another run across the plate as they would eventually fall 6-4.
SBU will be back in action on Tuesday, March 22 when they host Lincoln in a mid-week MIAA contest. Opening pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
