SBU Softball Falls in Double-Header at Missouri S&T

Rolla, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team fell in a double-header at Missouri S&T on Wednesday, 3-1 and 8-4. At the conclusion of the day, the Bearcats now stand at 13-19 on the season.

In game one the Bearcats were the first to strike in the top half of the first. Catlin Evans led the game off with a bunt single, was advanced over to second on a sacrifice bunt from Rachel Ray, and came home on an rbi single up the middle by Dana Graves to put SBU on top 1-0. However, the Miners responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1. S&T would tack on runs in the third and fourth, as the Bearcats would eventually fall in game one 3-1. Kacey Ayers threw another complete game for SBU, striking out 7 in the loss.

In game two SBU once again jumped ahead early, taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the second inning. Kaley Hansen led the second inning off with a single through the right side, stole second, and came home on an rbi double down the left field line by Lyndie Routh. Missouri S&T answered back with eight runs over the next three innings, as the Bearcats trailed 8-1 heading into the fifth. The Bearcats used an rbi single by Graves in the fifth, an rbi double by Kelcee Welch in the sixth, and an rbi walk by Rachel Wilson in the seventh to add three more runs, but SBU would fall 8-4.

The Bearcats will continue their non-conference road swing on Tuesday, March 22 when they travel to William Jewell. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. from Liberty, Missouri.
