SBU Softball Earns Split at #5 Central Methodist on Tuesday

Fayette, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team earned a double-header split at #5 Central Methodist (NAIA) on Tuesday afternoon, taking game two 7-1 after falling in game one 4-1. At the conclusion of the day, the Bearcats now stand at 13-17 on the season.

In game two after a scoreless first inning, the Bearcats exploded for five runs in the top of the second. Caitlyn Cooner led the inning off with a walk, followed by a double from Kaley Hansen to put runners on second and third with no outs. After two quick outs, Kelcee Welch drew a walk to load the bases. A CMU error on the following batter gave SBU a 1-0 lead, followed by a two-rbi single from Catlin Evans to extend the lead to 3-0. After a Raigan Ratliff walk, Dana Graves hit a two-rbi single to extend the SBU lead to 5-0.

The Bearcats tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth inning off of rbi single's from Hansen and Lyndie Routh as the Bearcats would go on to claim game two 7-1. In the circle Hunter Middleton threw a complete game, allowing only one run to go along with 6 strikeouts.

In game one the Bearcats were once again the first to get on the scoreboard, pushing a run across in the top of the third. After a bunt single and stolen base by Catlin Evans, Dana Graves would hit Evans home on an rbi single to put SBU ahead 1-0. However, Central Methodist would respond with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, added another in the fifth, as SBU would end up falling 4-1.

The Bearcats will continue their road trip on Wednesday, March 16 when they travel to Missouri S&T. Opening pitch of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. from Rolla, Missouri.
