Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell at home in non-conference action against Drury on Tuesday afternoon 13-8. With the loss, SBU drops to 9-10 on the season.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a half inning of play, but the Bearcats responded promptly in the bottom half of the first.
Caleb Sneed led the inning off with a single to left field, followed by a
Christian Binger walk, and two batters later a
Carter Sherban single to left field loaded the bases.
Chance Wolfe then reached on a fielding error by DU, which allowed two runs to score, as SBU trailed 3-2.
Jeff Bouchard then hit into a fielder's choice, as Sherban came home to score, before
Trevor Bowling hit a two-run homerun to right field to give SBU a 5-3 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, Drury put up four runs in the top half of the third as the Bearcats trailed 7-5. The score would remain the same until the bottom of the fifth inning when SBU came back to tie the game at 7-7. With a runner on third and two outs in the inning,
Jeff Bouchard hit a two-run homerun down the right field line to tie the game at 7-7. However, DU would answer back with a six run sixth, as SBU trailed 13-7.
Chance Wolfe hit an rbi single to center field in the bottom of the ninth, but the Bearcats were unable to gain any more ground as they fell 13-8.
The Bearcats will return to MIAA action on Thursday, March 17 when they host Northeastern State to open up a three-game series. Opening pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
