Box Score Hays, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team picked up another big road MIAA victory on Saturday afternoon with a 13-5 win over Fort Hays State. After the victory, the Bearcats now stand at 8-9 (3-5 MIAA) on the season.
SBU got the scoring started in the top half of the first inning.
Caleb Sneed and
Christian Binger led the game off with back-to-back singles, followed by an rbi single from
Sean Murley to put the Bearcats ahead 1-0. Two outs later
Chance Wolfe blasted a two-run homerun to left field to give SBU a 3-0 lead. Fort Hays State responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs, as SBU led 3-2 after an inning of play.
The next three innings were scoreless for both teams before the Bearcats broke the game open in the top of the fifth. With one out in the inning Binger and Murley hit back-to-back singles followed by an rbi single to right field from
Carter Sherban. Wolfe then drew a walk, and a bases loaded walk by
Cody Massey extended the SBU lead to 5-2. After an FHSU pitching change,
Trevor Bowling hit a two-rbi single to left field and shortly after Bowling and Massey both picked up stolen bases.
Blake Hobbs continued the inning with an rbi single to short, followed by a
Hunter Hisky single to load the bases. Sneed drew a bases loaded walk, followed by an rbi fielder's choice by Binger to round out the SBU scoring in the inning with the Bearcats holding a 10-2 advantage.
SBU continued to push, and after a scoreless sixth, Bowling hit a solo homerun down the left field line to extend the lead to 11-2. FHSU got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning, but SBU plated two more runs in the top of the ninth. Hisky drew a one out walk, and come home when Sneed hit an rbi double down the left field line. Binger then continued his strong series with an rbi single to right field to give SBU a 13-4 lead. Fort Hays State got one run back in the bottom of the ninth, but SBU would cruise to the 13-5 victory.
The Bearcats will return to action on Sunday, March 13 when they close out their series against Fort Hays State. Opening pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. from Hays, Kansas.
