Box Score Edmond, Okla. – The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in the final game of three-game series at Central Oklahoma 8-6. With the loss SBU drops to 4-6 (0-3 MIAA) on the season.
After a scoreless first inning, the Bearcats were the first to get on the scoreboard in the top of the second when
Chance Wolfe hit a leadoff homerun to center field to give SBU the 1-0 lead. SBU extended their lead to 2-0 when
Tim Gurnow led the top of the 3rd off with a solo homerun to right field, but UCO bounced back for two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.
The back-and-forth battle continued in the top of the 4th when
Carter Sherban led the inning off with an infield single to third, followed by a walk by
Trevor Bowling. Gurnow continued his strong game by doubling down the left field line, scoring both runners, as SBU took a 4-2 lead. However, the Bronchos responded again in the bottom half of the inning to once again tie the game at 4-4.
After a scoreless 5th, the Bearcats once again re-gained the lead in the top of the 6th. With one out in the inning
Trevor Bowling hit a solo homerun to right center, putting SBU on top 5-4. Two batters later Gurnow blasted his second solo homerun of the game, this one down the right field line, to extend SBU's lead to 6-4. However, UCO would respond with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and another in the eighth as SBU would fall 8-6.
The Bearcats will return home on Thursday, March 3 when they open up a three-game series against Missouri Western. Opening pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
