SBU Baseball Scores 10 Runs in Doubleheader at Missouri S&T

Rolla, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in a double-header at Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon, 7-2 and 10-8. At the conclusion of the day, SBU now stands at 4-3 on the season.

In game one Missouri S&T jumped ahead 1-0 after an inning of play, and extended their lead to 2-0 heading into the top of the fifth. With one out in the top of the fifth, Trevor Bowling and Blake Hobbs hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. Sean Murley then hit a pinch hit rbi single to right center to cut the lead in half. S&T responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning before the Bearcats struck again in the top of the sixth. Jeff Bouchard and Chance Wolfe hit back-to-back singles, and after a double steal Bouchard came home on a passed ball to cut the S&T lead to 3-2. However, the Miners would score four runs in the bottom half of the inning as SBU would eventually fall 7-2.

In the second game of the day the Bearcats were the first to strike in the top of the first. With one out in the first, Christian Binger doubled to left center and came home on a Bouchard rbi single to left field to take a 1-0 lead. Missouri S&T would respond with 8 runs over the next four innings before the Bearcats would start to mount a comeback. In the top of the fifth Bouchard hit an rbi double to left field to cut the deficit to 8-2.

In the top of the sixth the Bearcats exploded for six runs to tie the game at 8-8. Wolfe led the inning off with a single to left center, followed a Cody Massey walk and a Brock Randles walk to load the bases with one out. Blake Hobbs then hit an rbi single back to the pitcher, and Caleb Sneed was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score SBU's second run on the inning. Binger then doubled to right center, scoring two, before Sneed came home on a wild pitch and Binger came home on a Bouchard sacrifice fly to tie the game at 8-8. However, Missouri S&T would score two runs in the bottom half of the seventh as the Bearcats would eventually fall 10-8 in the game.

SBU will return to action on Friday, February 26 when they travel to Central Oklahoma to open up MIAA play. Opening pitch of the three-game series is set for 2:00 p.m. from Edmond, Oklahoma.
