Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team is set to host Missouri Southern on Thursday for the annual Play 4Kay game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink on Thursday evening, have a chance to receive a free SBU Play 4Kay t-shirt, and will be given the opportunity to donate throughout the evening to the Play 4Kay foundation. The annual Play 4Kay initiative provides coaches and student athletes around the country the opportunity to "come together as one" to raise awareness for women's cancer research on the court, in their communities and beyond. The SBU vs MSSU game is part of national fundraising initiative benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's support of women's cancer research.
The Coaches and the All-Time SeriesSBU head coach
Kelsey Keizer is in her second season on the Bearcat bench after leading SBU to a 9-18 (4-15 MIAA) record last season. Coach Keizer had spent the past three years as the assistant at Southwest Baptist after playing collegiately for Division I Drake.
Ronda Hubbard is in her 3rd season as the head coach at Missouri Southern, and her 15th season on staff with the Lady Lions. Hubbard holds a career coaching record of 39-15.
Missouri Southern leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 43-21. The Lady Lions claimed a 74-61 victory over SBU earlier this season in Joplin.
Scouting the BearcatsSouthwest Baptist is coming off of an exciting 68-65 victory over Central Missouri, and are now 13-11 (8-10 MIAA) on the season. The Bearcats are led in scoring by
Caylee Richardson who averages 13.0 ppg and 8.3 rpg, while
Megan Rosenbohm averages 11.4 ppg off of the bench.
Dilonna Johnson averages 10.5 ppg and a team high 3.9 apg, while
Mackenzie Skupa is averaging 7.1 ppg and
Sarah Magana is averaging 3.5 apg.
Scouting the Lady LionsMissouri Southern enters the contest against Southwest Baptist 16-9 (10-9 MIAA) on the season. The Lions are coming off of an 68-62 home loss to Fort Hays State. MSSU is led in scoring and rebounding by Sharese Jones who averages 17.4 ppg and 6.8 rpg. Deb Holcomb is also in double-figures at 15.4 ppg.
