Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team picked up a 7-6 come from behind victory over Winona State on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Bearcats now stand at 2-1 on the season.

Winona State started the scoring off in the top of the first inning, plating the game's first run as SBU trailed 1-0 after an inning of play. WSU added two more runs in the top of the third off of a homerun, as the Warriors held at 3-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth. Trevor Bowling started the inning off with a single, and after Tim Gurnow reached on an error, Caleb Sneed hit an RBI double to put SBU on the board. Christian Binger then followed it up with a two-rbi single to tie the game at 3-3.

The Warriors answered right back in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs, before the Bearcats responded in the bottom half of the inning. Jeff Bouchard let the bottom of the sixth off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball, and eventually came home on a wild pitch to put SBU down 5-4. Bowling then drew a walk, followed by a Gurnow single, and after a Sneed single Bowling came home on a WSU error to tie the game at 6-6. Winona State came back to take a 7-6 lead in the top of the seventh, setting SBU up for the comeback victory.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Gurnow hit a one out single, followed by a double from Hunter Hisky to put runners on second and third. Sneed walked, to load the bases, and Binger tied the game up on a sacrifice fly. After Sean Murley was hit to load the bases, Hisky came home, for what would turn out to be the game winning run, on a wild pitch. The Bearcats held the Warriors scoreless in the top of the ninth as they claimed the 7-6 victory.

SBU will return to action on Saturday, February 20 when they host former MIAA opponent Truman State. Opening pitch of game one of the doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
