Bolivar, Mo. -Â Southwest Baptist concludes their homestand on Saturday by hosting Northeastern State.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his third season on the SBU bench after compiling a 21-36 (11-30 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 203-137 across eleven seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Jason Tinsley begins his 3rd season as the head coach at Northeastern State. Tinsley holds a 15-38 record while at NSU, and a career collegiate coaching record of 170-171 across both the men's and women's side.
Northeastern State leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 12-4. NSU claimed a 90-80 victory last season in Tahlequah, but the Bearcats picked up a 79-68 victory the last time these teams met in Bolivar (2014-15).
Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats come into the game against Northeastern State 5-3 (0-1 MIAA) and are coming off of a 90-81 loss to Central Oklahoma. SBU is led in scoring by
Brian Patterson who averages 13.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg, while
Logan Hovey averages 9.3 ppg,
Kai Woodfall 9.1 ppg, and
Louis Baltazar averages 8.3 ppg and a team high 6.5 rpg.
Cartree Pettis leads the Bearcats in assists with 4.3 apg to go along with 8.0 ppg. SBU presents a balanced scoring attack with seven players averaging over six points a piece. On the boards, the Bearcats are out-rebounding their opponents by 9.3 rebounds per game.
Scouting the RiverHawks
Northeastern State comes into the game against Southwest Baptist 2-6 (1-1 MIAA) on the season. The RiverHawks are coming off of an 80-65 non-conference loss to Dallas Baptist after opening up MIAA play with a win over Missouri Western and a loss to Central Oklahoma. NSU is led in scoring by Montre' Williams who averages 15.6 ppg, while Cameron Martin (12.1 ppg) and Karon Waller (11.3 ppg) are both in double figures. On the glass Braxton Williams pulls down a team high 5.6 rpg, while NSU is out-rebounded by their opponents by 5.1 rpg.
