Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist continues their five-game homestand on Thursday when they open up MIAA play against Central Oklahoma.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his third season on the SBU bench after compiling a 21-36 (11-30 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 203-137 across eleven seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Tom Hankins begins his 2nd season as the head coach at Central Oklahoma. Hankins holds a career coaching record of 16-14 after spending the previous 18 years at Division I Oral Roberts and Southern Illinois-Carbondale.
Central Oklahoma leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 8-4. The Bronchos claimed an 80-69 victory in Edmond last season, while in 2014-15 UCO won in Bolivar 73-61. The Bronchos have won seven in a row against the Bearcats, with SBU's last victory coming during the 2007-08 season.
Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats come into the game against Central Oklahoma 5-2 and are coming off of a 89-63 victory over Williams Baptist. SBU is led in scoring by
Brian Patterson who averages 12.6 ppg and 6.4 rpg, while
Logan Hovey is also in double figures at 10.0 ppg to go along with 5.3 rpg.
Louis Baltazar averages 8.0 ppg and a team high 7.1 rpg, while
Cartree Pettis leads the Bearcats in assists with 3.7 apg to go along with 7.1 ppg. SBU presents a balanced scoring attack with seven players averaging over six points a piece. On the boards, the Bearcats are out-rebounding their opponents by 10.4 rebounds per game.
Scouting the Bronchos
Central Oklahoma comes into the game against Southwest Baptist 5-2 (1-1 MIAA) on the season. The Bronchos are coming off of a 67-64 victory over the University of Science and Arts. UCO is led in scoring by Marquis Johnson who averages 12.4 ppg, while Josh Holliday (12.1 ppg), Jordan London (10.6 ppg), and Corbin Byford (10.1 ppg) all average double-figures. Byford is also the leading rebounder on the team at 6.7 rpg, while Johnson dishes out a team high 4.0 apg.
