Bolivar, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team cruised to a XX-XX victory over Central Christian College on Friday evening. With the win SBU improves to 3-1 on the season.
The Bearcats took an early lead on the visiting Tigers, with a pair of buckets from
Kiana Peterson and a three from
Megan Rosenbohm gave SBU a 7-0 lead. With 6:42 left in the first quarter, and the Bearcats leading 10-5, SBU used a 12-0 to quickly push their lead to double figures.
Natalie O'Keefe hit back-to-back shots, followed by a three from
Bailey Rezabek to give SBU a 17-5 lead.
Madison Strong then connected on a jumper,
Gokce Cetin hit a free throw, and layup from
Mackenzie Skupa completed the run with a 22-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After CCC hit a three to open up the second quarter, SBU went on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 21 points. Rosenbohm hit a three, and then back-to-back layups from Peterson and Richardson gave SBU a 29-8 lead with 8:20 left in the half. The two teams played even over the remainder of the second half with the Bearcats going into the break with a 41-21 lead.
The start of the second half began with a 13-0 run by the Bearcats to extend their lead to 54-21. SBU pushed their lead to 37 moments later, as Strong hit four straight three's for the Bearcats. A pair of free throws from
Kameron Schaaf gave SBU a 66-28 after three quarters of play.
SBU continued to roll in the fourth quarter, opening up with 6-0 run to push the lead to 72-28. A
Morgan Henderson layup with 51 seconds remaining in the game push the lead to a game high 45, as SBU cruised to a 79-34 victory.
Madison Strong had a game high 20 points in her first career collegiate start, connecting on six three's. Thirteen different Bearcats scored on the evening, while every Bearcat that saw minutes pulled down a rebound. As a team SBU out-rebounded CCC 66-28. The Bearcats shot 40.0% from the field, 30.0% from beyond the arc, and 71.4% from the free throw line.
SBU will return to action on Tuesday, November 22 when they host Missouri Baptist. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
