SBU Volleyball Hits the Road this Weekend in MIAA Play

Bolivar, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats begin a five-game road series across two weeks beginning at Northwest Missouri on Friday.

The Coaches
Caira Dortch will begin her third season as the head coach at Southwest Baptist, and holds a career coaching record of 15-44 (8-32 MIAA). Prior to soming to SBU, Dortch previously coached at Drury and Evangel.

Amy Woerth is in her 5th season as the head coach at Northwest Missouri. Woerth holds a career coaching record of 53-68 including a 31-43 mark in MIAA play.

Marian Carbin his in her 4th season as the head coach at Missouri Western. Carbin holds a 59-33 career coaching record, including 37-19 in MIAA play. Carbin was also a four-year assistant coach at Missouri Western before taking over the head coaching position.

Scouting the Opponents
Northwest Missouri enters the weekend 19-2 (7-2 MIAA) and are ranked #17 in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll. The Bearcats are coming off of a 3-0 sweep over Emporia State after falling to Washburn 3-2. NWMSU is led by Maddy Bruder who averages a team high 3.96 kills/set, while three other Bearcats also average over 2.0 kills/set. On the block Alexis Williams averages 1.11 blocks/set and Jackie Becker averages 0.83 blocks/set. Setties duties belong to Sarah Dannettell who averages 10.23 assists/set, while Olivia Nowakowski averages a team high 4.51 digs/set.

Missouri Western enters the weekend 12-9 (4-5 MIAA), are coming off of a 3-0 loss to Washburn, and have dropped four of their last five matches. The Griffons are led offensively by Rachel Friedrichs who averages a team high 2.96 kills/set while also picking up a team high 0.81 blocks/set. Kortney Blaufuss averages a team high 10.19 assists/set, while defensively Kayla Ruff has 4.09 digs/set.

Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist enters the week 3-20 (0-9 MIAA) on the season, and are coming off of a 3-1 loss to Drury. The Bearcats are led offensively by Dana Neal who averages a team high 2.42 kills/set, and is third on the team with 2.61 digs/set. Setting duties are split between Serena Mar (4.58 assists/set) and Brea Freeman (3.36 assists/set), while Bailey Baumann averages a team high 3.92 digs/set.
