Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist will continue their three-game road trip at Pittsburg State on Saturday.
The CoachesSBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his second season on the SBU bench after coming off of a 11-18 (6-13 MIAA) record last season. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 193-119 across ten seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Kevin Muff enters his 6th season as the head coach at Pittsburg State. Muff holds a career coaching record of 76-67 after coming over to PSU from Cloud County CC where he spent 12 seasons as head coach.
Southwest Baptist leads the all-time series against Pittsburg State 32-28. Pittsburg State claimed a 73-72 victory in last year's meeting in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Scouting the BearcatsThe Bearcats are coming off of 80-63 road loss to Missouri Southern and are now 7-6 (2-5 MIAA) on the season. The Bearcats are led in scoring by
Brian Patterson who averages 15.1 ppg and 6.2 rpg, while
Logan Hovey averages just short of a double-double at 14.5 ppg and 8.7 rpg.
Cartier Dean averages 7.8 ppg, while
Marley Biyendolo and
Nate Nahirny average 6.2 ppg each. SBU is outrebounding their opponents by just over 8 rebounds per game (38.0 rpg to 29.6 rpg).
Scouting the GorillasPittsburg State is coming off of an 80-69 victory over Central Missouri their last time out, and now stand at 8-7 (3-6 MIAA) on the season. PSU is led in scoring and rebounding by Josiah Gustafson who averages 15.2 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Trey Starks (13.7 ppg) and Dakota Jones (11.1 ppg) are also in double-figures for the Gorillas.
