Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist will travel to Missouri Southern on Thursday to face off against the Lions.
The Coaches and the All-Time SeriesSBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his second season on the SBU bench after coming off of a 11-18 (6-13 MIAA) record last season. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 193-119 across ten seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Jeff Boschee enters his 2nd season as the head coach at Missouri Southern. Boschee holds a career coaching record of 20-11 after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant and associate head coach at Southern.
Missouri Southern leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 49-42. The two teams split last season, with SBU earning a 74-61 victory their last time out, in Joplin.
Scouting the BearcatsThe Bearcats are coming off of 70-64 road loss to Central Missouri and are now 7-5 (2-4 MIAA) on the season. The Bearcats are led in scoring by
Brian Patterson who averages 15.7 ppg and 6.5 rpg, while
Logan Hovey averages just short of a double-double at 15.1 ppg and 9.3 rpg.
Cartier Dean averages 7.9 ppg, and
Marley Biyendolo averages 6.8 ppg. SBU is outrebounding their opponents by just under 10 rebounds per game (38.2 rpg to 29.0 rpg).
Scouting the LionsMissouri Southern enters the game at Southwest Baptist 8-6 (5-3 MIAA) on the season. MSSU has dropped two straight, most recently to Fort Hays State 84-83 in overtime. Taevaunn Prince is the leading scorer for MSSU, averaging 25.6 ppg and 10.9 rpg. Charlie Brown is also in double-figures at 14.4 ppg, while Austin Wright averages 12.1 ppg.
