SBU Men's Basketball to Host Emporia State on Thursday

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist returns home for a pair of homes games starting with Emporia State on Thursday evening.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Clark Sheehy begins his second season on the SBU bench after coming off of a 11-18 (6-13 MIAA) record last season. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 193-119 across ten seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.

Shaun Vandiver enters his 5th season as the head coach at Emporia State. The former NBA First Round Draft picks boasts a 52-63 career coaching record.

Southwest Baptist leads the all-time series against Emporia State 28-20. The Bearcats claimed a 71-51 victory against Emporia State last season in Bolivar.

Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats are coming off of a 90-80 loss at Northeastern State, and are now 8-10 (3-9 MIAA) on the season. The Bearcats are led in scoring and rebounding by Logan Hovey who averages 14.5 ppg and 7.9 rpg, while Brian Patterson averages 12.8 ppg and 5.3 rpg. Cartier Dean averages 8.1 ppg, while Kai Woodfall 7.1 ppg, and Nate Nahirny 6.7 ppg.

Scouting the Hornets
Emporia State comes into the game against Southwest Baptist 8-10 (5-7 MIAA) on the season. The Hornets are coming off of a 70-62 loss at Washburn, but have won two straight prior. ESU is led in scoring by Terrence Moore who is averaging 14.9 ppg and a team high 3.0 apg. Charles McKinney (11.1 ppg) and Brandon Hall (10.0 ppg) both average double-figures, while Joshua Oswald pulls down a team high 5.1 rpg.
