Richardson's Career High 26 Points Lead SBU Women to 77-62 Victory at Central Oklahoma

Edmond, Okla. - Caylee Richardson scored a career high 26 points as the SBU Women's Basketball team picked up a 77-62 road victory over Central Oklahoma on Thursday evening. With the win, the Bearcats improve to 10-7 (5-6 MIAA) on the season.

The Bearcats opened the scoring quickly with a jumper from Dilonna Johnson followed by Mackenzie Skupa layup to take an early 4-0 lead with 8:48 remaining in the first quarter. The Bronchos responded with two straight buckets, but SBU fought right back with a 6-0 run to regain the lead at 10-5 with 6:41 left in the quarter. After a UCO basket, Johnson connected on a three to extend the SBU lead to 13-7 as SBU maintained a small lead for the remainder of the first quarter, leading 19-15 after the first.

Central Oklahoma opened up the second quarter with a layup, but another 6-0 run by the Bearcats gave them a 25-17 lead with 5:32 left in the half. Johnson hit another jumper, followed by four straight points from Morgan Lucy, to give SBU their biggest lead of the first half. The Bearcats and Bronchos exchanged buckets before UCO went on an 8-0 run to tie the contest at 27-27 with 1:40 left in the half. Megan Rosenbohm hit a jumper on the following possession, as SBU would end up taking a 29-27 lead into the break.

Out of the break UCO once again tied the game at 29-29, and again at 31-31, before SBU took control. The Bearcats responded with an 11-0 run, breaking the game wide open, and giving SBU their first double-digit lead of the game. Skupa started the scoring off with a layup off of a pass from Sarah Magana, followed by a three from the corner by Alex Botkin, another Skupa layup, a Richardson layup, and another Botkin basket gave SBU the 42-31 lead with 5:54 left in the third quarter. UCO continued to hang around, but a layup from Richardson, followed by a three from Ashlee Pitts extended the lead to 15 (50-35), and a Morgan Henderson jumper with 1:14 left in the quarter put SBU up 17 (54-37). UCO would score the final two points in the quarter, but the Bearcats would lead 54-39 heading into the final quarter of play.

The Bearcats continued to keep the Bronchos at an arm's length away, but an 8-0 UCO run cut the Bearcats lead to 7 (58-51) with 6:51 to go in the game. SBU promptly responded with back-to-back layups from Richardson to extend their lead back to double-digits (62-51) with 6:09 remaining. After a UCO layup with 5:45 left, SBU went on a mini 5-0 run to once again re-gain a double-digit lead which they would hold for the remainder of the contest. SBU would end up cruising to a 77-62 victory.

Caylee Richardson had a career high 26 points on the evening, going 11-15 from the field while also pulling down 8 rebounds. Dilonna Johnson chipped in 16 points, including three three's, while also dishing out 6 assists in the victory. As a team, SBU shot 51.7% from the field, 40.0% from beyond the arc, and 90.0% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats will continue their road trip on Saturday, January 23 when they travel to Northeastern State. Tip-off is set for 12:30 p.m. from Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
