Box Score 2 Evansville, Ind. - The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team fell to Northwood and Southern Indiana in the final day of the Dunn Hospitality Invitational tournament on Saturday. At the conclusion of the day, the Bearcats now stand at 1-3 on the season.
In the first contest of the day for SBU, the Bearcats fell in straight sets to Northwood 25-16, 25-21, and 25-20.
Dana Neal led SBU in kills with 6, while
Brea Freeman collected 15 assists in her first action of the season. Defensively,
Hannah Blount continues to lead the Bearcats with 16 digs.
In the second game of the day, the dropped the first two sets to Southern Indiana 25-14 and 25-23 before taking set three 27-25. However, SBU dropped the fourth and final set 25-14.
Taryn Marton and
Serena Mar both were in double-digits kills for SBU with Marton recording 11 and Mar 10. Defensively the Bearcats had three in double-figures with Blount leading the way with 13 digs followed by Mar who added 10 digs, for her first career double-double, and
Brea Freeman who had 11 digs and 18 assists for her first career double-double as well. Also recording double-digit assists was
Anna Stuehm who had 14.
The Bearcats will continue their 12 game road-trip to open up the season when they travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the Augustana Tournament next weekend. SBU will take on Minnesota State-Moorhead and Northern State on Friday, September 11 followed by contests against Augustana and Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday, September 12.
