Box Score

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's soccer team played a strong game against visiting Dallas Baptist, but fell 3-2 to the Patriots to drop to 0-2 on the season.

The Bearcats played strong from the beginning of the contest, and were the first to put a goal on the scoreboard in the 21st minute. After Josh Mason sent the corner kick to the far end of the box, Jason Hasenohr knocked in his first goal of the season to put SBU up 1-0. SBU would hold tight for the remainder of the first half, taking their 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Dallas Baptist quickly picked up three goals in the first 17 minutes of action to take a 3-1 lead. SBU was able to settle down, and in the 67th minute Garrett Gibson sent a cross from the right side to the middle of the box where Hunter McRoberts knocked the ball under the goalie and into the goal to pull SBU within one at 3-2. However, the Bearcats were unable to get another goal, and would end up falling 3-2.

"We played a very good first half," head soccer coach Nick Pettit stated. "We were moving the ball and creating chances. We had a beautiful goal off a set piece, and our defense was structured and organized. Going into half with the lead was great, and we told them keep it going and don't let up. It's tough we came out flat for 20 minutes and they capitolized on that by scoring three goals in that span. At that point it's late and we are having to work extra hard. We got one back and kept fighting, but in the end it was a little too late. We are coming along, and it's going to happen for us. I have faith in this group."

SBU will return to action on Tuesday, September 8 when they travel to Rogers State. Play is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from Claremore, Oklahoma.
