Bolivar, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats are set to open up MIAA play on Friday and Saturday when they travel to Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western.
The CoachesCaira Dortch will begin her second season as the head coach at Southwest Baptist, and holds a career coaching record of 10-20 (5-17 MIAA). Prior to coming to SBU, Dortch previously coached at Drury and Evangel.
Amy Woerth enters her 4th season as the head coach at Northwest Missouri. Woerth holds a career coaching record of 38-54.
Marian Carbin enters her 3rd season as the head coach at Missouri Western. Carbin holds a career coaching record of 38-23.
Scouting the BearcatsSouthwest Baptist enters the week with a 2-8 record after falling to #13 Rockhurst 3-0 their last time out.
Taryn Marton leads the way offensively for SBU, averaging 2.59 kills/set, while defensviely
Hannah Blount averages 4.39 digs/set.
Scouting the OpponentsNorthwest Missouri enters MIAA play with a 7-3 record on the season, most recently falling to Oklahoma Baptist 3-2. The Bearcats are led offensively by Maddy Bruder who averages 3.03 kills/set and Miranda Foster who averages 2.89 kills/set. Sarah Dannettell handles the setting duties, averaging 9.81 assists/set, while Aarika Wittenburg leads the backcourt with 4.32 digs/set.
Missouri Western enters the week with an 8-2 record, having won eight straight including a 3-0 win over Henderson State their last time out. Jessie Thorup leads the Griffons offensively with 3.62 kills/set, while Shellby Taylor averages 2.24 kills/set. Setter Jordan Chohon averages a team high 10.19 assists/set, while Kayla Ruff averages 4.35 digs/set.
