Box Score

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's soccer team hung tough with Upper Iowa, who received the 26th most votes in the latest NSCAA Coaches Poll, but ultimately fell 2-1 in overtime to the Peacocks.

The Bearcats had a strong first half of play, controlling the ball for a majority of the half while outshooting the Peacocks 10-6. However, both defenses and goalies played stingy defense and SBU and UIU went into the half tied 0-0.

In the second half SBU was the first to strike in the 56th minute, when Hunter McRoberts found Garrett Gibson in the box who put the ball under the goalie in the bottom corner of the net to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Upper Iowa responded in the 66th minute with a goal of their own, and neither team would get back on the scoreboard as the Bearcats and Peacocks went into overtime tied 1-1. In the OT period, UIU scored the game winning goal in the 93rd minute as SBU fell 2-1.

Gibson scored his 6th goal on the season, marking five straight games where Gibson has scored. In goal, Lajos Zadravecz picked up five saves in the loss.

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, September 26 when they host #20 Lindenwood. Play is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar.
