Joplin, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's and women's cross country teams had solid performances at the Southern Stampede on Saturday morning with the women taking 2nd as a team and the men finishing 10th.
In the women's 5,000 meter run
Katherine Sitzes was the top SBU finisher, taking 3rd overall in a time of 17:21.26 followed closely by
Elizabeth Luckel who finished 4th in a time of 17:21.64.
Mary Carr was the next to cross the finish line, taking 22nd place in a time of 18:18.94, while
Briana Watson finished 38th in a time of 18:42.39.
Ashley Lawson took home a 44th place finish in a time of 18:50.41, while
Rachel Wheeler finished 47th (18:53.68),
Katelyn Evans 52nd (18:56.97),
Alexis Fritz 73rd (19:18.54),
Emily Cumpton 145th (20:25.52),
Paiton Fritsche 167th (20:46.95),
Madelyn Ballard 175th (20:56.10), and
Jessica Williams 190th (21:29.13).
On the men's side, Cody Troy Smith was the top Bearcat finisher with a 17th place finish in a time of 25:13.95 on the 8,000 meter course. Following Smith was Drew Cargill who finished 33rd in a time of 25:30.83, while Jacob Burch finished 54th in a time of 25:49.78 and Jeremy Inman 59th in a time of 25:53.97. Next up for SBU was Thomas Chabrecek who finished 65th in a time of 25:57.26, followed by Luke Karamitros (85th; 26:15.30), Max Robinson (104th; 26:28.10), Derek Showler (140th; 27:04.07), Ryan Pate (165th; 27:26.14), Tucker Seise (187th; 27:49.79), and Josh Bertoldie (214th; 28:26.83).
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, October 3 for the Arkansas Chile Pepper from Fayette, Arkansas.
