Box Score Joplin, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team exploded for five goals on Thursday evening en route to a 5-2 non-conference victory over Missouri Southern. With the win, SBU improves to 2-3 on the season.
The Bearcats were the first to strike in the 12th minute of action when
Caroline Karlsson knocked in her first goal of the season, from
Whitney Snow, to put SBU up 1-0. SBU added to their lead in the 39th minute when
Haylee Thibodeaux knocked in her first goal of the season, this one from Karlsson, giving the Bearcats a 2-0 lead. Neither team would put up another goal in the half, as SBU went into the break leading MSSU 2-0.
In the 64th minute during the second half
Karla Jamison knocked in her fifth goal of the season, making it three straight games with a goal, to put SBU up 3-0. Jamison then added another goal in the 67th minute, while Karlsson had another assist on the day, to extend the Bearcat lead to 4-0. After MSSU got a pair of goals back in the 69th and 77th minutes, Karlsson added her second goal of the day in the 89th minute to seal the 5-2 victory for SBU.
SBU will return home on Saturday, September 19 when they host MIAA opponent Central Oklahoma in a non-conference match-up. Play is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar.
