Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's soccer team played an outstanding game against visiting Hannibal LaGrange on Saturday afternoon, but fell 3-2 in a heartbreaking overtime loss. With the loss, the Bearcats drop to 0-4 on the season.
SBU was the first to strike in the 24th minute when
Brad Tippin launched a beautiful shot 40 yards out and placed it over the keeper's head into the upper right coner of the net to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Hannibal LaGrange answered back in the 29th minute to tie the contest up at 1-1, a score which held until halftime. In the second half, the Bearcats re-gained the lead when
Garrett Gibson beat three HLG defenders, after a strong lead pass from
Josh Mason, as SBU went up 2-1. However, once again Hannibal LaGrange had an answer in the 68th minute to tie the contest up at 2-2. The Bearcats had a couple of golden opportunites in the final minutes of regulation, but came away inches short as the two teams headed into an overtime period. In the overtime, HLG knocked in the game winning goal in the 94th minute as SBU fell 3-2.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, September 15 when they travel to William Jewell. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. from Liberty, Missouri.
