Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team earned a double-header split with Pittsburg State on Monday afternoon, taking game one 7-4 before falling in game two 19-7. After the day, SBU now stands at 14-18 (9-15 MIAA) on the season.
In game one Pittsburg State was the first to strike by plating two runs in the top of the third inning. The Bearcats responded right back when
Caleb Sneed doubled home
Cory Canterbury to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. SBU then strung together multiple hits in the bottom of the fourth to take their first lead of the day.
Ross Wolfe led the inning off with a single up the middle, follwed by a single through the right side by
Jake Vore and a bunt single by
Zach Snodgrass to load the bases up with no outs. Canterbury then singled up the middle, scoring two runs, followed by an rbi sacrifice fly by Sneed to put SBU up 4-2. Two batters later
Chance Wolfe singled to center field to put the Bearcats up 5-2. SBU added two more runs in the fifth when Snodgrass hit a bases loaded single to right field to extend the Bearcat lead to 7-2. PSU got two runs back, scoring in the sixth and the seventh, but the Bearcats would cruise to a 7-4 victory. On the mound
Cole Roark earned the victory by throwing a complete game while striking out five batters.
In game two, Pittsburg State was once again first to put runs on the scoreboard, taking a 4-0 lead after the first inning of play. SBU promptly responded in the bottom of the second with four runs of their own to tie the game up at 4-4.
Ross Wolfe led the inning off with a solo homerun, followed by a Vore solo homerun to cut the deficit to 4-2. With two outs in the inning Sneed and Bowling hit back-to-back singles, followed by a
Chance Wolfe walk, before
Christian Binger singled to left field to tie the game up at 4-4. However, PSU would score nine straight runs to take a 13-4 lead heading into the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth the Bearcats got three runs back, courteousy of the long ball, with Vore hitting a solo homerun followed by a two-run homerun from Bowling. However, it wasn't enough as SBU would fall 19-7 in game two.
The Bearcats will quickly return to action on Tuesday, April 7 when they host Missouri Southern in a non-conference game. Opening pitch for the single nine inning game is set for 3:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
