Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team earned a double-header split against Lindenwood on Thursday afternoon, taking game two 5-2 after falling 1-0 in game one. After the day, SBU now stands at 20-27 (9-15 MIAA) on the season. The Bearcats nine MIAA wins are the most in SBU school history, while the 20 win plateau has been met for the first time since the 2010 season.
In game two the Bearcats fell behind early 2-0 after two innings of play. After a scoreless third inning, SBU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when
Tyler Hernandez singled up the middle with runners on the corners, scoring
Dana Graves, as the Bearcats cut the Lions lead in half at 2-1. The following inning, SBU took their first lead of the game.
Catlin Evans and
Rachel Ray led the game off with back-to-back singles, before
Brittanie Halquist hit an rbi single to center field to tie the game up at 2-2. After a
Caitlyn Cooner sacrifice bunt to advance the runners,
Stormy Christerson hit a two-rbi single to left field to put the Bearcats up 4-2. Christerson came home shortly after when
Hailey Turner hit an rbi infield single to give SBU a 5-2 advantage.
Kyra Parker shut down the Lions for the remainder of the game, throwing a complete game while allowing two runs to go along with six strikeouts.
In game one
Kacey Ayers threw a solid game from the circle, throwing 7.0 innings while allowing one run to go along with five strikeouts. However, Ayers was on the short end of a 1-0 game as the SBU offense was unable to get anything going as they fell 1-0 in game one.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, April 25 for SBU Senior Day. Opening pitch of the double-header against Lincoln is set for 1:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
