SBU Baseball Drops DH at William Jewell 3-2 & 14-4

Liberty, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in a double-header contest at William Jewell on Tuesday afternoon 14-4 and 3-2. At the conclusion of the day, the Bearcats now stand at 18-26 on the season.

In game one, Southwest Baptist fell behind early, trailing 4-0 after the first inning of play. SBU got one run back in the top of the second when Cory Canterbury doubled to left field, bringing home Jake Vore, as the Bearcats trailed 4-1. However, William Jewell rolled off 10 straight runs, taking a 14-1 lead over Southwest Baptist heading into the final inning. In the top of the 7th, where SBU loaded the bases with no outs. Thomas Dean had a pinch hit rbi single, followed by an rbi sacrifice fly by Christian Binger and an rbi fielder's choice by Ross Wolfe but it wasn't enough as SBU fell 14-4 in game one.

In game two, the Bearcats received a strong pitching effort from Matt Dye, as he threw 5.0 innings allowing two runs to go along with four strikeouts. Jewell scored in the second and the fifth to take a 2-0 lead heading into the sixth inning before Southwest Baptist was able to get on the scoreboard. Trevor Bowling led the inning off with a single to center field, followed by a Zach Snodgrass walk and an rbi single from Zach Pirrello, as SBU trailed 2-1. WJC responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning before the Bearcats went back to work in the top of the seventh. Binger led the inning off by reaching on an error and came home when Spencer Blacksher hit an rbi single up the middle as SBU trailed 3-2. However, the Bearcats were unable to push another run across the plate as SBU would end up falling 3-2.

Southwest Baptist will return to action on Friday, April 24 when they travel to Central Oklahoma to begin their final MIAA series of the season. Opening pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. from Edmond, Oklahoma.
