Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team allowed only five hits to Evangel as the Bearcats claimed a 13-6 victory this afternoon. With the win, SBU improves to 17-21 on the season.
The Bearcats got things going in the first inning, roughing up Evangel for nine runs after just an inning of play. Southwest Baptist put runners on second and third with one out when
Ross Wolfe hit an rbi fielder's choice to put SBU up 1-0. After
Ross Wolfe stole second,
Jake Vore singled through the right side to score both Wolfe and
Christian Binger as the Bearcats took a 3-0 lead. SBU then had back-to-back singles from
Trevor Bowling and
Cory Canterbury to load the bases up when
Zach Snodgrass was hit by a pitch to put the Bearcats up 4-0. SBU then scored their next three runs of the inning off off a pair of wild pitch's, coupled with an EU error to take a 7-0 lead. Then when runners on the corners,
Spencer Blacksher doubled to right center, scoring both runners, and putting SBU up 9-0.
Evangel responded with a run in the second, and three more in the third, before the Bearcats struck again in the bottom of the third when
Chance Wolfe led the inning off with a solo homerun to left field to give SBU a 10-4 lead. In the fifth, Southwest Baptist once again added to their lead. With one out in the inning,
Christian Binger doubled to right field, and after a
Ross Wolfe walk, Binger stole home as part of a double steal to put SBU up 11-4.
Jake Vore then doubled down the left field line, scoring
Ross Wolfe, as the Bearcats took a 12-4 lead.
EU got another run in the sixth, but an rbi double from
Caleb Sneed in the eighth once again put the Bearcats up eight at 13-5. Evangel tacked on one more in the ninth, but SBU would cruise to a 13-6 victory.
Logan Johnson picked up the victory on the mound for SBU, while
Calvin Lovig earned the save by pitching 3.2 innings while allowing one run.
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, April 17 when they host Missouri Western in the final home series of the year. Opening pitch of the double-header is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from Dodson Field.
