Box Score St. Charles, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team claimed the final game of the series at Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon 9-8 in extra innings. With the win, the Bearcats improve to 16-21 (10-18 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when
Chance Wolfe led the game off with a double, and came home later in the inning on an rbi fielder's choice by
Ross Wolfe. Lindenwood came back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game up at 1-1 before Southwest Baptist re-took the lead in the second inning when
Trevor Bowling hit a solo homerun to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead.
After a scoreless third inning, SBU added to their lead in the top of the fourth. With two outs in the inning, the Bearcats loaded the bases when
Christian Binger hit a bases clearing triple to put SBU up 5-1. In the fifth, Bowling was hit by a pitch, stole second, and came home on an rbi double from
Cory Canterbury to go up 6-1. One inning later the Bearcats continued to stretch their lead in the sixth when
Ross Wolfe singled home Binger to give SBU a 7-1 lead. LWU fought back over the next two innings, scoring three runs to cut the Bearcat lead to 7-4. SBU added another run in the ninth when
Jake Vore came home on a balk to extend the SBU lead to 8-4. Lindenwood responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs, and forcing the game to extra innings.
In the top of the 11th inning Canterbury hit a one out double followed by a
Zach Snodgrass single to put runners on the corners with one out. After a Snodgrass steal,
Caleb Sneed hit an rbi groundout to put the Bearcats ahead 9-8.
Cole Roark came in to pitch the bottom of the 11th, picking up the three out save, as SBU earned the 9-8 victory.
Tim Collins pitched one inning out of the bullpen to pick up the victory.
SBU will return to action on Tuesday, April 14 when they host Evangel in a nine-inning non-conference game. Opening pitch is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
