Box Score 2 Tahlequah, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up a double-header sweep at Northeastern State on Saturday, claiming an 8-4 game one victory followed by a 2-1 game two win. After the day, the Bearcats now stand at 18-23 (8-14 MIAA) on the season.
After three scoreless innings to kick off game one, the Bearcats got the scoring started in the fourth inning.
Caitlyn Cooner and
Catlin Evans started the inning off with back-to-back singles, followed by a
Dana Graves walk to load the bases when
Emily Davis hit an rbi single to center field to put SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats extended their lead in the fifth when the Bearcats put runners on the corners before Evans singled up the middle to plate one run followed by a three-run homerun from
Dana Graves to put SBU up 5-0 after five. SBU continued to put runs on the scoreboard in the sixth and seventh innings, off of an rbi single from
Stormy Christerson and rbi double's from Cooner and Evans as the Bearcats would cruise to an 8-4 game one victory. In the circle
Kyra Parker picked up a complete game victory, throwing all seven innings while allowing four runs.
In game two, NSU was the first to strike in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead off of a solo homerun. The Bearcats promptly responded in the top of the third when
Tyler Hernandez led the inning off with a single, was sacrificed over to second, and came home on an rbi single from Evans to tie the game up at 1-1. The Bearcats broke the tie an inning later when
Brittanie Halquist blasted a solo homerun to left field as SBU took a 2-1 lead. SBU starter
Kacey Ayers shut down the RiverHawks for the remainder of the game, throwing a complete game while allowing only one run off of six hits as the Bearcats went on to a 2-1 victory.
SBU will return to action on Tuesday, April 14 when they host Drury University. Opening pitch of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
