Box Score 2 Edmond, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team blasted four homeruns between the two games in a double-header at Central Oklahoma, but fell 5-3 in game one and 8-5 in game two. With the losses, SBU drops to 16-23 (6-14) on the season.
In game one Central Oklahoma took an early 2-0 lead through the first two innings of play before the Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. With one out in the inning,
Stormy Christerson doubled to left field, and came home two batters later when
Caitlyn Cooner hit a two-run homerun to center field to tie the game up at 2-2. The Bearcats broke the tie in the following inning when
Rachel Ray hit an rbi infield single to put SBU up 3-2. However, the Bronchos responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs, as SBU would end up fall 5-3 in game one.
In the second game of the day the Bearcats were the first to strike in the top of the fourth.
Brittanie Halquist led the inning off with a homerun to left field, and after a
Catlin Evans walk,
Dana Graves then hit a two-run homerun to left field to give SBU a 3-0 lead. But in the bottom half of the inning, Central Oklahoma responded by scoring 6 runs to take a 6-3 lead heading into the fifth. The Bearcats continued to fight, and after Christerson drew a two-out walk, Halquist hit her second homerun of the day to cut the Broncho lead down to one at 6-5. However, UCO once again responded in the bottom half of the inning with two more runs as SBU would drop game two 8-5.
The Bearcats will quickly return to action on Saturday, April 11 when they travel to Northeastern State. Opening pitch of the double-header is set for 12:00 p.m. from Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
