Box Score St. Charles, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team dropped the opening game of a four-game series at Lindenwood on Friday evening 15-5. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 15-19 (9-16 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats were the first to strike in the top of the third inning when
Christian Binger hit a solo homerun to put the Bearcats up 1-0. Lindenwood responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 5 runs, before SBU got one back in the fourth.
Ross Wolfe led the inning off with a triple, followed by a
Jake Vore walk and an rbi bunt single by
Zach Snodgrass as SBU trailed 5-2 after three and a half innings.
LWU scored the next seven runs of the game over the following two innings before the Bearcats started to mount a comeback in the seventh.
Zach Pirrello led the inning off by reaching first on an error, and two batters later
Chance Wolfe singled to put runners on first and second. After a passed ball that advanced both runners up a base, Binger hit a two-rbi single as the Bearcats trailed 12-4.
Spencer Blacksher then hit an rbi single to cut the deficit to seven, but the Bearcats were unable to plate another run in the inning as they eventually would fall 15-5.
Southwest Baptist will be back in action on Saturday, April 11 in a double-header at Lindenwood. Opening pitch of game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from St. Charles, Missouri.
