SBU Softball Falls in Neutral Site Double-Header Against Fort Hays

Warrensburg, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team fell in a neutral site double-header against Fort Hays on Sunday afternoon, dropping game one 8-4 followed by a 3-2 game two loss. With the losses, SBU drops to 6-9 (1-5 MIAA).

In game one the Bearcats fell behind early, as the Tigers scored three in the first, three in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the seventh as SBU trailed 8-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh. SBU got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning, putting two runners on with two outs. Dana Graves singled through the left side to put the Bearcats on the board, followed by a three-run homerun from Addie Murders. The Bearcats were unable to get another run across the plate as they would end up falling 8-4 in game one.

In game two the Bearcats loaded the bases in the top of the first inning, scoring a run off of a Graves sacrifice fly to go up 1-0. Fort Hays responded with a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth as SBU trailed 3-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Hailey Turner led the inning off with a single before the Bearcats plated a run two batters later on a FHSU error to cut the deficit down to one at 3-2. However, the Bearcats were unable to score another run as they fell 3-2 in game two.

SBU will return to action on Wednesday, March 11 when they travel to Drury for a double-header against the Lady Panthers. Opening pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. from Springfield, Missouri.
