SBU Baseball Hits Three Homeruns in 12-1 Victory over Northeastern State

Tahlequah, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team picked up a 12-1 run rule victory over Northeastern State on Sunday afternoon.

Northeastern State jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning, plating their only run of the game off of a fielding error. The Bearcats broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the third when Zach Pirrello hit a two-run homerun to left field, bringing home Chance Wolfe, as SBU took a 2-1 lead. In the fourth, Spencer Blacksher led the inning off with a solo homerun to left field, putting the Bearcats up 3-1. Jake Vore then doubled to left center, and came home on an NSU wild pitch to take a 4-1 lead.

SBU struck again the sixth with their third homerun of the game when Jake Vore hit a two-run homerun to left field to take a 6-1 lead. The SBU offense continued their impressive day in the seventh. The Bearcats put two runners on with one out before Zach Snodgrass came home on a wild pitch to put SBU up 7-1. Ross Wolfe followed up with an rbi double, before an intentional walk to Blacksher loaded the bases. SBU then drew back-to-back-to-back walks, giving Vore, Payton Reed, and Caleb Sneed all rbi's. The Bearcats added their 12th run on the day from an rbi fielder's choice by Chance Wolfe. In all, SBU plated six runs in the seventh, forcing a run rule in a 12-1 victory.

On the mound Michael Proiette threw a complete game three-hitter, allowing one unearned run while striking out 9 in the win.

The Bearcats will return to action on Monday, March 9 for the final game of the series against Northeastern State. Opening pitch is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
