Box Score 2 Joplin, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team earned a double-header split at Missouri Southern on Tuesday, dropping the first game 5-4 while coming back to take a 1-0 game two victory. After the conclusion of the day, SBU now stands at 12-19 (4-10 MIAA).
In game one, the Bearcats fell behind 2-0 after one inning of play. The Bearcats broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the second. After SBU loaded the bases,
Catlin Evans drew a walk, putting the Bearcats on the board, followed by an rbi single by
Rachel Ray. SBU added another run in the same inning when
Tyler Hernandez took advantage of a run down situation to give SBU a 3-2 lead. In the third inning,
Brittanie Halquist doubled to center field, and came home two batters later when
Stormy Christerson singled to centerfield, giving SBU a 4-2 lead. However, MSSU would score the next three runs in the game as SBU fell 5-4 in game one.
In the second game of the day,
Kyra Parker completely shut down the Lions offense, hurling a three hit shutout. Parker threw 7.0 innings, allowing three hits while picking up a pair of strikeouts. The lone run in the game came in the fourth inning when
Brittanie Halquist hit a solo homerun to left field which proved to be enough to give SBU the 1-0 victory.
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, April 3 when they host #11 Emporia State. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
