Box Score 2 Emporia, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball fell in a double-header at Emporia State on Sunday. The Bearcats fell in game one 9-4 before dropping game two 14-4.
In game one, Emporia State put up nine runs in the first three innings, taking a 9-0 lead heading into the fourth. After a pair of scoreless innings, the Bearcats started their comeback in the sixth. The Bearcats put runners on first and second with two outs when
Caleb Sneed singled through the right side to score
Spencer Blacksher to put SBU on the scoreboard.
Zach Snodgrass then singled up the middle to score
Jake Vore, followed by rbi singles from
Payton Reed and
Cory Canterbury to pull SBU within five at 9-4. The Bearcats continued their comeback in the seventh, loading the bases with one out in the inning. Sneed then hit another rbi single, cutting the deficit to four, but the Bearcats were unable to get another run across the plate as they fell 9-5 in game one.
In the second game of the day, SBU opened up the scoring in the top of the second when Snodgrass tripled to right field to score Vore and take a 1-0 lead. ESU responded in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs, but a Blacksher rbi double in the third tied the game up at 2-2. ESU re-took the lead with five runs over the next two innings. The Bearcats got rbi singles from Vore and
Zach Pirrello, but it wasn't enough as SBU fell 14-4.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, March 31 when they host College of the Ozarks. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
