Box Score 2 Warrensburg, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team returned to MIAA action by splitting with Central Missouri on Friday. The Bearcats took game one 12-2 while falling 4-2 in game two. SBU now stands at 11-16 (3-9 MIAA) on the season.
In game one the Bearcats hopped on the scoreboard first in the third inning. With two outs in the inning,
Brittanie Halquist singled up the middle, followed by a two-run homerun by
Caitlyn Cooner to put SBU up 2-0. Central Missouri responded in the fourth with a pair of runs, tying the game up at 2-2, but the Bearcats came right back to re-take the lead in the fifth. The Bearcats put runners on first and second before Halquist singled up the middle to put SBU up 3-2.
Dana Graves then added to the lead, hitting a sacrifice fly to give SBU a 4-2 lead. SBU completely opened the game up in the seventh, plating 8 runs to take a 12-2 lead. The Bearcats received rbi singles from
Stormy Christerson,
Kaley Hansen,
Lyndie Routh, and a homerun from
Brittanie Halquist to fuel the 12-2 victory. In the circle
Kacey Ayers picked up the victory throwing a complete game while picking up 9 strikeouts.
In game two, SBU took a 1-0 lead in the third when Halquist scored after a single from
Caitlyn Cooner, couple with a UCM error. The Jennies responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs, as the Bearcats trailed 2-1. In the fifth, SBU tied the contest back up when Halquist doubled to right field to score
Catlin Evans. However, UCM scored the next two runs as the Bearcats would end up falling 4-2.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, March 28 when they host Central Missouri in a non-conference double-header. Opening pitch of game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from Bolivar, Missouri.
